To wrap up the day, the Onion reveals

Justin Bieber Found To Be Cleverly Disguised 51-Year-Old Pedophile

Cable is doomed and our kids can't stop shooting each other

Saw this coming a while back when I worked at Blockbuster.

http://theweek.com/article/index/207507/cable-tvs-impending-death-4-signs

Of particular interest to me (quoting from the article linked above)

"Earlier this month, Apple announced that its revamped Apple TVs would be going for just $99 (older versions were $229) and started offering $.99 rentals on TV shows. Google TV, set for release this fall, will turn traditional TV sets into web browsers — and let viewers search for (and watch) the expanding range of television options available online. Netflix's streaming video service, Watch Instantly, is growing rapidly, and has reportedly inspired Amazon to jump in with a similar offering. "Netflix has already won the digital TV/Video War" says Paul Verna in Ad Age. A new Credit Suisse study found that 37 percent of Netflix subscribers between the ages of 25 and 34 watch Netflix streaming instead of TV, while 30 percent of subscribers between 18 and 24 have have ditched their cable TV."

What I don't know is the future of TV. Are people going to be integrating all forms of entertainment into computer systems or even PHONES? I can feel my nostalgia for simpler times bubbling.

Also did anyone hear about that shooting at UT Austin? What the hell?

Just another day done.

I figured I'd post something thoughtful but nothing is coming to mind. I will say that I am very anxious to begin school and establish what I consider to be my ideal living situation. I've waited long enough (about 4 years) to return to school so what's another couple of weeks?

I think I'm going to begin posting in such a format that every couple days I can point fellow bloggers to productions I find either informative or entertaining. Today I am pleased to refer you to a special I recently viewed on HBO about an American's look into the culture and philosophy of Al-Qaeda.

My Trip to Al-Qaeda

I'm a fan of looking at world events from multiple perspectives. If you're curious about some of the lesser known details of what's been plaguing my country for 8 years. It's an award winning presentation.

Quantum "Photonic" Computers a possible reality?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1312936/Scientists-develop-new-photonic-chip-pave-way-quantum-computers-future.html

A Photon is a particle of light (if I am not mistaken) does that mean we will soon be able to make computers out of particles of light? I have heard of some other interesting types of computers being researched.

What are the moral consequences of these developments inn technology? Are such systems stable and what potential is there to use complex machines inappropriately/maliciously? If you are able to control the functions of a Computer the size of an Amino Acid there must be the ability to influence the Biological systems of Organisms. I am excited whenever I read editorials about new age research but I can't help but feel like there is opportunity for failure and disaster in technology developments.

Musings 1

A couple few things on my mind.

1) I'm attempting to wrap my head around the phenomena of cigarette withdrawal. As an on and off smoker I have gone weeks and sometimes months without my good ol' Marlboros but lately when I pick up a new pack I get high as a kite after the first smoke. Last night I had my first Cigarette in a couple days and it put me to sleep! I realize some of you can't relate to this feeling, but it starts with increased pulse, head throbbing, a feeling of euphoria and loss of balance and for me general grogginess. Now I can't say this is a bad thing when you're trying to get some rest at 2am but HELL why does my body react so strongly? I can only assume it's Nictotine's extended effect upon my brain. I'll gain clarification some day-- for now:

Oh how I love and despise thee!

 2) I am a student to be and my major of choice will be Biology with intentions for graduate study. When I was younger I wanted to be a Pilot, then I wanted to be an artist, then a musician and then (for a while) I wanted to do nothing but whatever I had planned for the weekend. Do any of you also suffer from career ADD? I know it's a common thing with young adults but I always feel a bit crazy when I think about how many times I have changed my mind-- and being naturally neurotic I dread it happening again. The only comfort I can find is that I have always been fascinated by Science and I love the natural earth. I guess in summation my curiosity is WHAT TRULY DEFINES A PASSION? I think about Darwin and his pursuit of Evolution as an explanation for our species and wonder if he doubted himself like I do, and what carried him through those feelings to become what he is to the Science community now.

Life: It's a beautiful thing

3 (lastly): I consider myself an avid gamer. Is gaming a waste of time?

(This is partially just to push buttons and fill in a 3rd musing)

I shouldn't be reposting on a blog but LOL OH WOW

Joad Cressbeckler: NASA Honeyfuggling America With Nonsense Space Dreams

Down with Farmville

I left Facebook today for a couple reasons. My main reason was that I have moved fairly far from where I once lived (basically across the US in distance, from west to east). The other reason was that I stopped enjoying the contact online because I am not able to see any of the people I have as friends on Facebook.

It really feels good, like I've earned back all the time I'd waste posting there. Ironically this blog doesn't feel like wasted time because it's composed as a journal and I don't have to actively view other people's updates. I do however enjoy looking at other people's blogs, most are mildly informative and interesting in some capacity. I hope it does them as much good to post as me. In the meantime I'm going to post some music I used to heavily listen to a couple years back.

That the fall isn't arriving sooner, I can't wait for the transition from summer clothes to winter so I can stack up layers and look like a hipster.

Anyone else watch Master Chef and freak out when Whitney dropped the Chicken? Can't get enough of that Gordon Ramsey and his Iceland sized ego.

Need more episodes of Wonders of the Solar System.
